Your 2006 Lanark Highlanders - Division Champions!
Welcome to the Lanark Highlanders
Rugby Football Club
History records Lanark County as being settled
by Celtic peoples from all over Britain, with an obvious emphasis on Scots.
Lanark County being named after the town of Lanark in Scotland, with its
own river Clyde, likewise and in equally unimaginative fashion Perth Ontario
boasts its own Tay River.
Perth (planned as a military settlement) is named in honour of
and sistered with the town of Perth in Scotland. After the War of 1812,
Perth was established in the spring of 1816 as part of a strategic defense
plan against invasion from the south.
Other notable military types of history include the
legendary William Wallace of Braveheart fame who resided in Lanark (Scotland).
So in honour of Lanark's Scottish military past we have named our rugby
football club the Lanark Highlanders. We hope in some small way to continue
the renown and tradition of Gaelic warriors – Cha-Gheill*!
