Monday night is Rugby Night!

Rugby is a fun, safe and social game for boys and girls of all ages. It promotes physical activity, cooperation, unity and good sportsmanship.

Every Monday night from 7:00pm – 8:00pm members of the Lanark Highlanders Rugby Football Club will be hosting and coaching “Rugby Fun Clinics” for kids. Touch Rugby will be played, “Touch” is a version of the game used worldwide to introduce the basic skills of rugby in a safe, fun, non-contact format.

For the younger kids, U6 & U8, running with the ball and basic passing will be introduced and emphasized. The older children, U 10 and U12, will be introduced to the team concept and basic offensive and defensive strategies. U16 and U18 will be taught the basics of the contact game under the auspices of the SmartRugby program coached in Beckwith by certified SmartRugby coaches*

It is a compulsory minimum requirement for every coach, player and referee participating in Rugby where there is a tackling or contact component. SmartRugby is mandatory in 2007, requiring qualification every two years.
